Do You Need Save the Dates?

Fat Cat PaperieTips & Tricks

Good question!

Well let’s just say, your wedding probably isn’t totally doomed if you don’t mail save the dates. I mean our grandparents didn’t have save the dates and they got married just fine. BUT times have certainly changed so while your wedding may not be doomed, due to everyone’s increasingly busy schedules save the dates have become pretty important.

So why are save the dates so important you wonder?

Well, I’m glad you asked.

1. I’m busy

Like I said, your guests have busy schedules. Sending a save the date will help them juggle long-term plans like vacations. Generally, we recommend sending them out six to eight months before your wedding date.

2. Vacation Weekends

Does your wedding land on a holiday weekend? If so, it’s not only important for your guests to put your date on their calendar, but also keep in mind that hotels and house rentals may book up more quickly than normal. You may want to include accommodation details on your wedding website or on the save the date itself to encourage your guests to start booking!

3. Work Schedules

Is your wedding on a weekday? Remember your guests will need to plan their work schedules accordingly — even if your wedding is on a Friday evening. They’ll have to take rush hour traffic into account and honestly, if your guests are anything like me, they’ll want to leave work a little extra early in order to not feel rushed while applying their makeup.

4. Destination Weddings

Are you planning a destination wedding? If so, we recommend sending your save the dates out earlier, especially if your location requires a passport. Communication is extra important when it comes to destination weddings, so we’ll help you decide what information your guests need early in the process.

Use caution when sending your save the dates”

One last bit of advice… use caution when sending your save the dates. Only send them to guests you are sure you want to invite. Once they’re in the mail, there’s no turning back if you decide to narrow down your list later in the process.
